Garlicky Faux Fried Chicken Legs

Love fried chicken, but not drowned in oil? Try this Garlicky Faux Fried Chicken Legs recipe instead! Add some smoked garlic grilling sauce to the beaten egg for a fantastic egg wash. The mayonnaise in the sauce helps make the breading extra crispy. A great, healthier alternative to a fried dish!


  • 4 whole chicken legs
  • 1 tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1 cup biscuit baking mix
  • 2 tbsp. Butcher’s BBQ Premium Blend seasoning
  • 1/2 cup Smoked Garlic Grilling Sauce
  • 1 egg, beaten


In a large bowl whisk Smoked Garlic Grilling Sauce with beaten egg. In a large freezer bag mix well biscuit mix with seasoning. Cover a large pan with foil for easy clean up. Pour melted butter into the pan. Dip each chicken leg into garlic egg mixture. Then, place into dry mixture until well coated. Place chicken skin side up into pan and into the outdoor oven for 45 minutes at 425°F (218°C).

When the chicken reaches an internal temperature around 175°F (80°C) pull it off, cover it and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. U.S.D.A. safe is 165°F (74°C) but the way the meat flakes apart at the higher internal temperature is delicious. Keep in mind that the meat will continue cooking for another 5 to 10 degrees after you pull it off the grill. A Maverick ProTemp Instant Read Thermometer is recommended for checking meat temps.
